Cachi existed before the arrival of the Spanish conquerors, inhabitated by indians from the race called diaguitas whose language is kakana. This race settled at the foot of the Mount Cachi to make use of water for their ingenious systems of irrigation, adopted and improved later on by the Spanish conquerors. All this due to dry weather that made the population irrigate the whole of the farming.

 

 

Its ancient origin goes back to the year 1673 being the important place Finca Hacienda Cachi (Ranch). The jesuits founded various different misions alongside the valley, when the division of encomiendas (control over land and indians granted) was done in 1673, the one corresponding to Cachi was assigned to Margarita de Chavez, appearing as the owner of it Mr. Pascual de Elizondo in 1719 and later Mr. Felipe de Aramburu.

foundation which for a long time enclosed the town, making it impossible its urban and economic progress, until in 1796 it is given to the convent of fathers Mercedarios by Micaela L. de Medina Pomar and her son in law Juan José Aramburu.

The Mercedarios built The Cachi historial Church and they started distributing pieces of land to the neighbours to build their houses around God's house. About 1800 the king's representative signed a document by which the parish of Cachi was created
